Medicare Savings Program

Medicare Savings Programs (MSP) offer assistance at a state level to help pay Medicare premiums.

Depending on the level of assistance you qualify for, the MSP may also help with deductibles, co-payments and co-insurance. Three programs cover the Medicare Part B premiums of $104.90 or $121.80 each month. The programs are QMB, SLMB and QI. More information about each is included in the table below.

Income & Resource Limits as of March 2016

QMB Program 
(Qualified Medicare Beneficiary)
Covers Part A premium (if applicable), Part B premium, deductibles, co-insurance and co-payments
  • $1,010 monthly income for an individual
  • Resource limit of $7,280 for an individual
  • $1,355 monthly income for a married couple
  • Resource limit of $10,930 for a married couple
SLMB Program 
(Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary)
Covers Part A premium (if applicable), Part B premium, deductibles, co-insurance and co-payments
  • $1,208 monthly income for an individual
  • Resource limit of $7,280 for an individual
  • $1,622 monthly income for a married couple
  • Resource limit of $10,930 for a married couple
QI Program
(Qualifying Individual)
 Covers Part B Premium
  • $1,357 monthly income for an individual
  • Resource limit of $7,280 for an individual
  • $1,823 monthly income for a married couple
  • Resource limit of $10,930 for a married couple
